The Village Theatre

In 1927 a grand ball was held to celebrate the opening of the Takaka Cinema, now the premises of the Wholemeal Café. This original movie theatre ran for forty years until it closed in 1967, unable to compete with the arrival of TV in Golden Bay in the early ‘60s. In 2005, a new screen was installed along with a surround sound system that incorporates a central sub bass speaker which is what shakes the floor when King Kong lands on the ground! 2006 saw comfortable new seating purchased and installed from donations and voluntary labour and in 2007, a grant to cover the purchase of a state of the art DVD projector completed the Village Theatre's evolution into a comfortable high tech entertainment venue.

Heaphy Track Help

Derry Kingston started his Heaphy Track Help business in 2003. He had long seen the need for a car relocation service for the Heaphy Track. He concluded that the most efficient way was to drive the car from one end to the other and then to walk back quickly. Consequently, he has now walked the Heaphy Track about 200 times! Derry's long involvement with the Golden Bay Tramping Club has given him extensive knowledge of both the Kahurangi and the Abel Tasman National Parks.

Clemmiec Bed and Breakfast

Joya is located in a quiet area of central Nelson. The garden studio is situated in a private garden overlooking a pond. The villa studio comprises a ground floor studio apartment in the tasteful, three storey heritage villa. The villa room is on the top floor of the villa with appealing views over the town, the hilltops of the Centre of New Zealand and a glimpse of sea. Restaurants, café's and galleries are just a five-minute stroll away. The studios are self-contained.. An optional organic vegetarian breakfast can be provided. The herbs and fruit gardens are for shared use. All water is filtered for chlorine free drinking and bathing. Beds are handcrafted and have NZ made ‘healthy’ mattresses. Kitchen surfaces and wooden floors are treated with organic oils. We offer long term deals and other services offered through the Joya Centre. Telephone and internet access in each room. Languages spoken: English, French, German, Dutch and some Spanish.
